Welfare union marks 50th anniversary: "Prejudice that they are all freeloaders"

The Bijstandsbond is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Amsterdam, marking its history as an advocacy group for welfare recipients. Originally a national organization founded in 1976, it now provides legal support and representation for individuals in Amsterdam navigating the complexities of social services and the Participation Act. The organization continues to challenge negative stereotypes about people on benefits while fighting against poverty traps caused by current legislation.
