The provinces of North Holland and Utrecht will now annually fly flags on June 30 and July 1 to commemorate the history of slavery and its abolition. On June 30, flags will be flown at half-mast to honor victims, followed by a full-mast raising on July 1 for the Keti Koti celebration.

Minister Jaimi van Essen has announced plans to create a new Natura 2000 area off the coast of North and South Holland to protect bird species. This designation will complete the nature protection zone along the entire Dutch mainland coastline, stretching from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen to Groningen.
