Desert plant that can live for centuries on display in special Hortus greenhouse: "Truly amazing"

The Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam has debuted a rare Welwitschia mirabilis desert plant housed in a specially designed, climate-controlled greenhouse. This unique plant, which can live for over 1,000 years, is native to the coastal deserts of Namibia and Angola and requires specific mist conditions to survive. Although the botanical garden has owned the specimen for 12 years, this is the first time it has been put on public display.
