Old and young clash and connect in Rollatorrap performance in Amsterdam-Noord

The upcoming theatrical performance Rollatorrap in Amsterdam-Noord explores the friction and eventual connection between local youth and the elderly. Through a mix of professional and amateur acting, the play highlights shared experiences and common ground within the rapidly changing neighborhood.
The theatrical production Rollatorrap, running from September 18 to September 27, explores the social dynamics between different generations in the rapidly evolving district of Amsterdam-Noord. By highlighting real-life conflicts, such as disputes over loud music or traffic incidents involving fatbikes and walkers, the play examines the friction between older residents and local youth. The performance serves as a platform to bridge these divided worlds, encouraging dialogue and mutual understanding through a series of scenes performed at various locations throughout the De Banne neighborhood.
Produced by Nest Noord, the project features a mix of professional actors like Jetty Mathurin and Yassine Chigri alongside local amateur residents. Director Céline Hoex notes that while the two groups initially appear to experience time differently, the rehearsal process revealed shared desires and common ground. By inviting the audience to walk through the neighborhood to witness these encounters, the production aims to show that despite real-world tensions, meaningful collaboration between young and old is possible.
