LIVE Eredivisie | Ajax looks for first home win against Excelsior since 2023
Ajax played to a 2-2 draw against Excelsior at home, extending their winless streak against the club to five matches. Despite a late push led by debutant Tolu Arokodare, Ajax was unable to overcome the visitors after falling behind early in the second half.
Ajax once again failed to secure a victory against Excelsior, resulting in a 2-2 draw at the Johan Cruijff Arena. This marks the fourth time in their last five meetings that the two teams have split the points, dealing a blow to Ajax's title ambitions. Julian Brandt opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half, but Lennart Hartjes leveled the match just before halftime. Early in the second half, Aymen Sliti put Excelsior ahead, silencing the home crowd.
The match saw a dramatic turnaround when Ajax substitute Tolu Arokodare equalized just moments after entering the field. Despite sustained pressure and numerous late opportunities—including attempts by Oscar Gloukh and Tolu that struck the woodwork or were cleared off the line—Ajax could not find a winning goal. Excelsior goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel played a critical role in preserving the draw, leaving Ajax frustrated as they missed out on the full three points.
