Oasis blocks auction of previously unreleased recordings

Oasis has blocked the auction of a massive collection of unreleased concert recordings and audio materials gathered by a former sound technician. Legal action taken by the Gallagher brothers led to the withdrawal of the items from an upcoming sale, as the band did not authorize the commercial release of the archive.

British rock band Oasis has successfully intervened to stop an auction of over 100 hours of previously unreleased recordings. The collection, which includes audio from 63 concerts and soundchecks, was compiled by former sound technician Huw Richards between 1994 and 2001. After brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher initiated legal action against Richards and his son, the sale was suspended to address ownership and copyright disputes.

Littleton Auctions had initially estimated the value of the materials, known as The Desk Tapes, to be between 1.2 and 1.6 million pounds. Although the firm expressed disappointment at the withdrawal, it confirmed that the recordings will not appear in the upcoming October 3 auction. Other Oasis-related memorabilia, including tour programs, setlists, and a guitar, remain scheduled for sale, while the legal proceedings regarding the tapes continue.
