Documentary about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and controversy over statements

A documentary about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is scheduled for release in 2027, covering both her professional rise and the controversies surrounding her statements on transgender rights. While the production features archival material and interviews with associates, Rowling herself declined to provide a new interview for the film.

A new documentary titled J.K. Rowling has been announced, set to explore the life and controversies surrounding the famous Harry Potter author. The project is expected to premiere in 2027 and will utilize archival footage and interviews with people close to the writer to chronicle her rise to global fame from her early days writing in Edinburgh cafes. Rowling herself did not participate in new interviews for the production, though she is aware of its creation.

The documentary will also dedicate significant time to the intense public debate sparked by the author's outspoken views on transgender issues. These comments led to her being labeled as a trans-exclusionary radical feminist, or TERF, and drew widespread criticism from various figures, including the lead actors of the Harry Potter film franchise. The production aims to provide a comprehensive look at both her literary success and the polarized discussions that have defined her recent career.
