Haarlemmermeer Lyceum discriminated against student by preventing prayer at school

The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights has ruled that Haarlemmermeer Lyceum in Hoofddorp discriminated against a Muslim student by preventing her from praying and refusing to establish a quiet room. The school argued that its status as a public institution required religious neutrality, but the Institute determined that religious expression is a fundamental human right rather than a privilege. While the school maintains it will not provide specific religious facilities, the ruling confirms that its actions constituted direct discrimination based on religion.
