Potato surplus for farmers due to high yields: After May it’s over

Dutch potato farmers are facing a massive surplus and significant financial losses due to high yields, overlapping harvest seasons, and increased international competition. With selling prices falling far below production costs, many growers are forced to sell their stock as animal feed while racing to clear their barns before the potatoes spoil in May. Despite the current oversupply, experts anticipate that climate change may reduce suitable farmland elsewhere, potentially increasing global demand for Dutch potatoes in the long term.
