Community service and suspended prison sentence for fake online landlord

A man has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service and a two-month suspended prison sentence for defrauding eighteen house hunters out of approximately €21,000. He targeted people moving to Amsterdam by posing as a landlord and collecting deposits for non-existent properties via video calls. The court imposed a lighter sentence than requested because the defendant took responsibility for his actions and is currently working to repay the victims.
