Rijksmuseum seals birdhouses: 'Because of flashy project'

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has faced criticism from local residents for taping birdhouses shut and netting trees to prevent birds from nesting during the construction of a new sculpture garden. The museum states these temporary measures are intended to avoid project delays and that they have provided alternative nesting boxes and plan to plant 22 new trees. The sculpture garden project, funded by a 60 million euro donation, will feature works by prominent artists and is expected to begin construction later this year.
