Atlas once stood on the Royal Palace, now in a restorer's backyard

The iconic bronze statue of Atlas is undergoing extensive restoration in Antwerp after over 360 years atop the Royal Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam. Restorer Derk Biront is cleaning the statue to return it to its original dark green color and replacing its internal structure to prevent moisture damage. The landmark is scheduled to return to its prominent position on the palace roof this May.
