Debate begins today on asylum law criminalizing illegality: "It is inhumane"

The Dutch Senate has begun debating a new asylum law that would criminalize illegal residency, a move that Amsterdam city officials and aid organizations describe as inhumane. Critics argue the law will prevent approximately 30,000 undocumented people in Amsterdam from accessing basic services like healthcare and education. Amsterdam has officially joined several other Dutch cities in opposing the legislation, with a final vote scheduled for April 21.
