Police now believe shooting that killed two Syrian boys was random

Police and prosecutors believe the fatal shooting of two Syrian teenagers in Amsterdam's Piet Wiedijkpark on New Year's Day was likely a random act of violence. A 25-year-old suspect remains in custody while authorities continue to investigate the motive and search for the murder weapon. The victims, aged 16 and 18, were unaccompanied minors who had been staying at a local asylum seeker reception center.
