Neighborhood not surprised by rats in restaurant: "Gross, but very Amsterdam"

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) closed a restaurant in Amsterdam-Oost after social media footage revealed a rat infestation in the kitchen. While local residents expressed disgust, many were unsurprised, noting that rat problems are a persistent issue in the neighborhood. This incident is part of a broader trend, as nearly half of all emergency business closures in the Netherlands due to pests this year have occurred in Amsterdam.
